Many football fans, leading with their head, viewed the Indianapolis Colts as the better team coming into Super Bowl XLIV.

Brees and the Saints rallied to upset Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 Sunday night in one of pro football’s most thrilling title games.

The Colts, a team that made a season out of fourth-quarter comebacks couldn’t find one Sunday night, and when it came to explaining Tracy Porter’s game-sealing 74-yard interception return with 3:12 left, the Colts didn’t have a lot to say.

Peyton Manning may have been the regular-season MVP, but on this given Sunday, Brees was better. Lifting his team from a 10-point deficit, Brees completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns to tie the Super Bowl record for completions on his way to winning the game’s MVP honors.

Beyonce was the show’s biggest winner as she took home 6 of the 10 honours she was nominated for including Song of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance awards for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”.

Taylor Swift took home her first four Grammys, including the coveted Album of the Year award, and Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” anthem earned the rockers prizes for Record of the Year, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

The Black Eyed Peas and Jay-Z were also triple winners at the Grammys.

The event’s winners were overshadowed by a clutch of terrific performances from acts like Green Day, Pink, Dave Matthews Band, Beyonce and the Black Eyed Peas.

Elton John and Lady Gaga collaborated to open the show and there were also collaborations including Jamie Foxx, T-Pain and Slash, Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli, Eminem, Drake and Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift and Fleetwood MAC star Stevie Nicks.

The event’s highlight was a star-studded tribute to Michael Jackson; Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Smokey Robinson and Carrie Underwood teamed up to perform the King of Pop’s Earth Song.

The stunning collaboration was accompanied by a 3-D version of the Earth Song video Jackson planned to use as a backdrop during his This Is It concerts last summer.

Following the tribute, Jackson’s children Prince and Paris took the Staples Center stage to honour their father, a recipient of one of the night’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.

In his first public speaking appearance, Prince thanked God for “watching over us these past seven months” and “our grandma and grandpa for their love and support”.

Both Jackson children ended their brief acceptance speeches with the words “We love you daddy”.

Madonna opened the awards show, paying tribute to the late Michael Jackson. “He was a king, but he was also a human being. … Long live the king,” she said of the King of Pop.

Following Madonna’s words, dancers stormed the stage to perform to a montage of Michael’s hits. Janet Jackson followed that performance up with her own tribute, singing the song “Scream,” a duet she recorded with her brother.

Taylor Swift then went up onstage to accept the award for Best Female Music Video from Taylor Lautner and Shakira, but her speech was cut short when Kanye West grabbed the microphone from her, declaring that Beyonce Knowles had one of the best music videos of all time.

Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Pink, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Green Day and Taylor Swift were a few of the performers of the night. Kid Cudi dedicated his performance to the late Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.

The show debut the new trailer of Michael Jackson’s upcoming film, “This is It.” featuring the “King of Pop” preparing for his final tour. There was also the new ‘New Moon’ trailer introduced by Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner.

The shotgun style ceremony at the chapel famous for its “Drive-Thru Tunnel of Vows” took place close to midnight. According to Milian’s marriage license, the duo said “I Do” at exactly 12:00 AM Friday morning.

We’re told Milian rented her wedding dress for $200 (including shoes and veil) and The Dream rented his tux for $100 (including shoes, tie and vest).

The iconic Little White Wedding Chapel is the same place Britney Spears married Jason Alexander in 2004.

For his Stars for Cars giveaway, Luda read essays about contestants’ inability to afford cars to commute to their jobs, and on Sunday, Ludacris and his foundation partnered with a Nissan dealership to give away 20 cars to needy people in the area. The winners were chosen from the approximately 4,000 people who submitted their 300-word essays to the Ludacris Foundation explaining why they needed a car.

In addition to the cars, they also got free gas for 30 days. The contest winners were, however, responsible for tags, registration, tax and insurance.

Although most of the lineup leans toward the indie-rock genre, Jay-Z filled in for the Beastie Boys, who pulled out after member Adam Yauch was diagnosed with cancer.

The festival’s other hip-hop acts came from Q-Tip, Organized Konfusion, the Pharcyde, Kool Keith, and the Cool Kids, who are content emulating the simple cadences of Run-D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys.

A 26 year old named Alberto Contador was able to grab his second Tour de France title while beating out Armstrong, his very own teammate.  Rumors have long been swirling that the two don’t like each other or get along very well.

Which makes for great press next year when Armstrong returns to the race that he’s made popular with a new team that will take on Contador’s.

With seven titles to his name, Armstrong doesn’t seem to be mad at finishing in third place.  The guy did come off a four year retirement and still finished in the 97^th percentile. “I’m realistic, I did everything I could.  For me, and even more for my kids, it’s probably a healthy thing for them to see, because they saw their dad that never lost, and the kids in their class (say) ‘your dad never loses,’ so it’s good for them to see dad get third and still be cool with that and still be happy.”

But like most great athletes, deep down inside you know that Lance Armstrong hates to lose; especially to a guy he doesn’t like.  So don’t be surprised if the Livestrong guy picks up number eight next Summer.

It was Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris that brought the world to tears saying:

“Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say that I love him. So much.”

The final resting place for Michael Jackson is still unknown at this time. After his memorial at Staples Center, Jackson’s casket, draped with red roses, was taken to an ambulance, which was accompanied by a Hummer. But the destination is unknown at this point.

There has been speculation that Neverland Ranch is in the running as Michael’s final resting place but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Forest Lawn Cemetery is unrelentingly secretive about who, exactly, is entombed in its parks, it’s assumed that stars such as Sammy Davis Jr., Humphrey Bogart and Jean Harlow are among those interred at various Forest Lawn cemeteries.

Many areas of the cemeteries are off-limits to the general public. “We hold the privacy of our client families in very high regard,” Bill Martin, spokesman for the Glendale location, told CNN. “There are certain areas and property types that have limited access.”

Afterward, it’s estimated that over 1 million Jackson fans are expected to swarm downtown L.A. for the King of Pop’s memorial service which is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Although fans will be disappointed that his body wont’ be at the Staples Center, that won’t stop them from going to celebrate his life.

According to various reports, a star-studded list of celebrities are expected to participate/attend in the memorial service:

Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy will speak at the memorial service. Jennifer Hudson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, and John Mayer are among the entertainers set to perform.

Other celebrities that are scheduled to be in attendance include Kobe Bryant, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Usher, Brooke Shields, and Magic Johnson and many more.

The recent passing of the greatest solo recording artist of our time last Thursday, did not put a damper on the black entertainments biggest night. Instead of mouring the most influencial black entertainer to have ever lived, singers, producers, rappers, actors all decided to pay tribute and celebrate in Jackson’s honor — and celebrate they did. It can be said that a large majority of the presenters, performers – and host himself—could all Blame it on the Alcohol. Not to say that the lack of structure throughout the show was unprecedented, but it was clearly visible that everyone, & I mean just about everyone was celebrating maybe just a lil too much. Keisha Cole & Monica delivered an excellent performance leaving the audience wondering, why Monica hasn’t been as prominent in today’s music scene. Among the list of performers was the almost inaudible Keri Hilson , the Young Money duo of Weezy and Drake (next in line for the throne, by the way), Ne-yo, Beyonce, Maxwell, Fabolous…and Soulja Boy (sigh).

Janet Jackson made a surprise appearance at the close of the ceremony to thank the crowd for their support in the wake of her brother Michael Jackson’s untimely death:

“My entire family wanted to be here tonight. But it was just too painful. So they elected me to speak with all of you and I’m going to keep it very short but I’d just like to say that to you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family.

He will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”

In all the 2009 Bet Awards was filled with much love and respect to the late Michael Jackson, a man that has influenced so many in attendance that night and the world over — you will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Kobe Bryant averaged 32.4 points and 7.4 assists per game against Orlando during the Finals as he led his supporting cast of Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Trevor Ariza, and the rest of the Lakers to beat the the Orlando Magic 4 to 1 in the best of seven series. He also took home his first Bill Russell Finals MVP Award. But most importantly, he got what he called “the monkey off his back.” That monkey being winning a title without Shaq.

Kobe said:

“I just don’t have to hear that criticism, that idiotic criticism anymore. That’s the biggest thing … It was annoying. It was like Chinese water torture, just keep dropping a drop of water on your temple. I would cringe every time. I was like, ‘It’s a challenge. Both Jay-Z and Eminem performed solo sets of several of their classic hits before they took the stage together to perform “Renegade” from Jay-Z’s Blueprint album.

The acoustic tributes of Andy Samberg’s Saturday Night Live digital shorts are sure to be an internet favorite.

After viewing the awards I’m left with a few questions, Am I going to watch the MTV Movie Awards Next Year? Do I even care? Am I getting old? And just how high was Kristen Stewart? Seriously, smoke more weed, your not baked enough.

With winners from High School Musical and the hit movie Twilight, it was a night for tweens across the nation. Is it me of do you feel a little outside of MTV’s targeted demographic these days? And Yes, Twilight won best movie, remarkably the movies’ star didn’t try devouring the award (made of gold popcorn).

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, delivered the opening speech for the gala asking attendees to help motivate young people to consider careers in social innovation and public service. She also announced that the new administration will be create a Social Innovation Fund to help assist non-profit organizations.

In her opening speech, Michelle Obama said:

“Events like this one show how truly connected our world is; how one person’s invention can create an entirely new economy; how one person can change how we see the world.”

She also spoke about being a role model for young girls around the world.

“Girls who look at me and see something more for themselves, more than society expects of them. Girls who now think anything is possible. As global leaders, let’s not underestimate the power each of us has to change the world for someone -– and let us not be afraid to try.”

Oprah, Gayle King, Jimmy Fallon, Claire Danes, Daine Sawyer, M.I.A, and the ladie of the View were among the guests in attendance. John Legend also performed a few of his song at the dinner party.

During the second round, Manny Pacquiao caught Ricky Hatton with a left hook that had the Brit unconscious before he hit the ground on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Most people expected Pacquiao to win the fight, but no that early that easily. Earlier and easier than Floyd Mayweather Jr. had knocked him out.

Coincidentally, Mayweather announce that he was coming out of retirement to face Juan Manuel Marquez in July. A Mayweather victory would can only set up a showdown between the two pound for pound kings.

Tyson, which is produced by La La Vasquez and Carmelo Anthony’s production company Krossover, premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival and received excellent reviews. The film is a combination of original footage, interviews and photographs that cover Mike Tyson’s life.

Monday’s night national championship was supposed to be a different story. It was supposed to be a close game. It was not suppose to be a replay of the 35 point drubbing that took place in December.

Well, no one told North Carolina that.

When Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, Danny Green, and Tyler Hansbrough all decided to returned to Chapel Hill this season they had one goal in common; to cut down the nets in Detroit. And by the end of the night, Tyler Hansbrough looked like a great decision maker; “Sounds like I made a pretty good decision. Nothing beats this feeling right here”.

The Tar Heels have been the best team in college basketball for the last two years, but last night they finally proved it. They jumped out to a 34-11 lead on the Spartans and were up 55-34 at the half. The big guns were just too much for the Spartans to handle in the end. Hansbrough put up 18 and 7 in his final college game, Ellington scored 19 points and was named Most Outstanding Player, and Ty Lawson had 21, 6 assists, and set a record with 10 steals.

Spartans Head Coach Tom Izzo knows that his team didn’t come to play. His team turned the ball over 21 times on 89 possessions. “I just don’t think we did the things we did all year. When you say that, you take away some credit from North Carolina, and I don’t want to do that. It was a combination of us and them, but we need to take some of the blame”, said Izzo.

The win gives Roy Williams his second title in five years. It also puts him in the same class as Jim Calhoun, Coach K, and Billy Donovan as the only active coaches with two national titles.

Dedicating their induction to their slain bandmate  Jam Master Jay, Joseph ‘Run’ Simmons and Darryl ‘DMC’ MCDaniels collected the honour at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, along with Jay’s mother, Connie Mizell.

Making a rare public appearance while rocking the trio’s signature back fedora and black leather jacket, Eminem was on hand to  deliver an induction speech:

“They broke away from the pack by being the pack. They were the baddest of the bad and the coolest of the cool. Run-DMC changed my life. There’s three of them and if you grew up with hip hop like I did, they were the Beatles.”

The 24th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony aired live on Fuse TV.
