The Respect My Vote! Get Out The Vote Bus Tour was created by the The Hip Hop Caucus’ partnership with the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, Grand Hustle, Atlantic Records, BET and AKOO.

As part of the tour, A-list Celebrities will promote the importance of voting leading up to Election Day. The Hip Hop Caucus Respect My Vote! tour bus shows up at various events and locations in the cities to collect Get Out The Vote voter pledge cards. During the stops, street teams distribute voter protection information, and celebrities talk to the crowd about the importance of voting.

The campaign announced today that both artists will be performing for thousands of Florida voters for free! Both Jay-Z and Wyclef will be promoting voter registration, and encouraging young people to get involved and make history with the Obama campaign.

Wyclef Jean has long been an advocate for aid to his native Haiti. With Haitian Americans being highly represented in the Florida area, this issue hits home, particularly in recent months as the island nation has been ravaged by devastating storms.

In order to go, those over 18 can visit the South Florida campaign office and obtain a maximum of two tickets per person. Ticket distribution began at 10:00 AM today, Thursday, Oct. 2. The invite only cocktail and shopping event featured a limited-edition basketball that was designed as a charity item by Ralph Lauren.

Sales of the balls benefit the Lebron James Family Foundation which supports fitness programs for kids.

Among the guests in attendance was Jay-Z, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Beckford, and many others.

The colorway’s intriguing, but it’s difficult to imagine hitting the court with a designer-branded basketball anyway.

As preparations for Tuesday’s BET Awards, which recognize the best in black entertainment in 15 categories, continued at the nearby Shrine Auditorium, nominees, sponsors and industry executives dined and danced in honor of the occasion.

Debra Lee said:

“This night gives us a reason to celebrate. We’re truly honored to be able to recognize the artists who are so important in our community. Not just the music, but the actors and athletes.”

Nominee Soulja Boy said he was glad to be included.

“I hope I win. The BET Awards represents me, where I come from and everything.

Jermaine Dupri, said he still gets a thrill from seeing celebs at the BET Awards:

“You get all the stars under one roof,” he said. “And it continues to grow.”
